Since 1987, I have logged approximately 50,000 patient contact hours with most mental health disorders. In addition, I specialize in depressive and anxiety disorders, couples work and substance abuse problems. My clients have described me as engaged, interactive and empathetic. Emphasizing mindfulness, I focus on dynamic tensions in the therapeutic relationship that help patients feel understood in the here and now. My relational approach is intended to help patients emotionally unfold.
In individual session, my approach is to allow the patient to tap into their experienced emotional state at that moment and to allow it it to unfold in the session. I look for repeated words and phrases that help capture where my clients are in the moment.
In couples work, the focus is expanded to make relationships more constructive and safe by fostering constructive communication. The sessions focus on the communication of unexpressed and feared feelings that undermine loving relationships.
If I am doing my job right, my patients will feel a sense of vibrancy and resonance that their emotional states have been heard and related to.
