Great to meet you!

Dr. MacKenzie ia board certified Adult and Child psychiatric NP and trained therapist Graduated Cum Laud from Case Western Reserve University in 2012 practicing in Texas, Oregon and most recently in Arizona since 2013. Prior to this he spent 10+ years as a Psychiatric and Critical Care RN in the community and a prior 10+ years in the US Army; where he learned a lot about anxiety, depression, grief and trauma. "I lived it, and with help I recovered. Then I studied what I myself have gone through to help others".

"If you think about it, there is no actual health without good mental health, and I work to help my clients achieve both."

Using the tools of Psychology as well as Psychiatric medication management (if appropriate), you can feel much better, function much better at home, work, and when you find yourself in those uncomfortable times.

Almost every symptom or unwanted trait can improve and in many cases, resolve completely, but only if you give it a chance.

My approach to therapy

If there is need and want for psychiatry, the treatment must treat your symptoms rather than just the diagnosis label, in order to avoid unproductive and even harmful decisions.

Some people remain on some type of treatment for a lifetime, but that is not the norm. Most peoples treatment lasts from 6 months to a year and then stops gradually. There are too many variables to put in this section but I have experienced many of these treatments myself for years and spent a decade learning how to help others with my knowledge and insight.

The primary psychologic therapy goals I find that can address most issues are tailored to your goals, not mine. Positive traits can be seen in a new light and help to deconstruct the self sabotaging behaviors and thinking we saddle ourselves with day in and day out. Repeating the same self destructive patterns, and same unhelpful actions and thoughts again and again..

What you can expect from me

I will listen to you and follow you down avenues and issues you want to work on, and guide you to the information you are looking for and the goals you want to achieve.

This takes work. No one can just talk to you and everything gets fixed. Once we identify your goals, you have to put in the effort. Yes there will be assignments, tasks, and cognitive exercises to move you in the right direction. I have a deep voice but its not that powerful.

Medications can help relieve and even heal certain symptoms and make therapy more effective, but therapy makes the permanent cognitive changes and has the most permanent effect over a lifetime. On average, the best results are the good application of both.
