Great to meet you!

Hello, I’m Whitney Beard Akins, M.A., LPC, a Licensed Professional Counselor and trained Biblical Counselor. I specialize in helping individuals heal from emotional wounds, trauma, anxiety, relationship difficulties, ADHD, OCD, and the lasting effects of emotional and spiritual abuse. Many of my clients are navigating overwhelming emotions, unhealthy relationship patterns, people-pleasing, perfectionism, or a loss of connection with themselves and their faith. My goal is to provide a safe, supportive space where clients can gain insight, develop practical coping skills, and move toward greater healing, resilience, and authenticity.

My approach to therapy

I believe healing happens when we learn to approach ourselves with curiosity, compassion, and consideration rather than judgment. My approach integrates evidence-based therapies including Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatic interventions, mindfulness, self-compassion practices, and cognitive-behavioral strategies. Together, we will explore the underlying patterns that keep you stuck, build emotional regulation skills, strengthen your relationships, and help you reconnect with your values and sense of purpose. For clients who desire it, I also thoughtfully incorporate Christian faith and spirituality into the counseling process.

What you can expect from me

Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and begin building a strong therapeutic relationship. We’ll discuss the concerns that brought you to counseling, explore relevant life experiences, identify your strengths, and clarify your goals for therapy. There is no pressure to share everything at once. My role is to create a comfortable, nonjudgmental environment where you feel heard, understood, and supported. By the end of our session, you’ll have a clearer understanding of how we can work together and a personalized plan for moving forward.
