I have a lot of experience working with people who are struggling with transitions (into college, career changes, relationships, etc.) I also have deep expertise is in the treatment of trauma, anxiety and depression. I gained this experience in hospital setting, at the VA, and in a private practice.
My approach is technically called relational and emotion-focused. That means that early sessions focus on establishing a trusting and respectful relationship, which creates a space in which all emotions are valid and worthy of processing. Whether these emotions are tied to early life events, present circumstances, or thoughts of the future, the key to understanding and improving one's mental health is to acknowledge, express, and process the emotions informing these experiences.
You should expect to discuss thoughts, emotions, and experiences in a collaborative and supporting manner. You will feel respected and safe. I will utilize whatever mixture of therapeutic modalities make the most sense for you. I have expertise in psychodynamic psychotherapy, relational psychotherapy, mindfulness based interventions, prolonged exposure, etc... but you have expertise in you. Between the two of us, we can create real positive change in your life.
