Great to meet you!

Hi, I'm Young Lee, a PMHNP-BC based in CA. Before entering healthcare, I was a varsity soccer player and served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army — experiences that taught me what it really means to show up for people, stay the course when things get hard, and lead with purpose. Those values followed me into every patient interaction I have today.

I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Duke University and my Master of Science in Nursing with a PMHNP specialization from Charles R. Drew University. My clinical background spans inpatient, outpatient, consultation-liaison, and telehealth settings. I've sat with patients in crisis at 2 a.m. and walked alongside others through quiet, steady progress over months — I value both of those moments equally.

I work with adults and geriatric populations, managing conditions including ADHD, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorders, PTSD, OCD, panic disorder, psychosis, schizophrenia, sleep disorders, substance use disorders, and eating disorders. My approach combines evidence-based medication management with psychotherapy techniques, tailored to each individual's needs and goals. I don't believe in one-size-fits-all treatment — your story matters, and your care plan should reflect that.

I understand that seeking help takes courage — sometimes it's the hardest step in the entire process — and I strive to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where you feel heard and supported. Whether you're navigating a new diagnosis or optimizing your current treatment plan, I'm here to partner with you on your journey toward wellness. You don't have to have it all figured out before reaching out.

I'm also proud to have contributed to clinical research, including co-authoring work presented at a national conference and participating in a BLS competence study at Duke University, keeping my care grounded in the latest evidence. I look forward to working with you.

My approach to therapy

At the heart of my philosophy is a firm conviction that every person deserves to be genuinely heard, deeply valued, and seen as a whole individual rather than a collection of symptoms. As a board-certified PMHNP with hands-on experience across diverse clinical settings, I bring a genuinely broad and human perspective that allows me to meet you exactly where you are on your unique mental health journey.

I offer evidence-based, personalized medication management carefully tailored to your unique needs, goals, and daily life. I remain accessible between sessions, because timely guidance and open communication are truly essential to your progress. Whether we are addressing ADHD, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD, OCD, panic disorder, psychosis, schizophrenia, sleep concerns, substance use, or eating disorders, I prioritize building a deeply collaborative relationship as the solid foundation for meaningful and lasting growth.

My background as a former varsity athlete and Army veteran profoundly shaped my deep appreciation for discipline, teamwork, and resilience. I understand that seeking help takes real courage, and I am intentional about creating a safe, judgment-free space where you feel comfortable being fully open and your most authentic self. Vulnerability is not weakness—it is precisely where genuine and lasting healing begins.

I have supported diverse populations, including adult and geriatric clients, across both in-person and telehealth settings. This breadth of experience has strengthened my ability to conduct thorough assessments, build truly personalized treatment plans, and deliver holistic care that carefully addresses both your symptoms and your overall wellbeing.

I practice with genuine cultural humility, recognizing that your heritage, identity, and lived experiences are inseparable from your emotional health and fully deserve deep respect throughout every meaningful step of our shared work together.

What you can expect from me

What matters most at your first visit is building a welcoming space where sharing your story feels genuinely safe. Taking this step is rarely easy, and I know that deeply, so I come to every first meeting with patience, warmth, and sincere curiosity about what weighs on you most, never any rush or pressure.

We will begin with a thorough psychiatric evaluation covering your mental health history, medical background, current symptoms, and whatever treatments or medications you have already tried. As a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who has cared for adults and older adults across many settings, my clinical foundation ensures nothing slips through the cracks. My experience spans ADHD, depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, OCD, panic disorder, psychosis, schizophrenia, sleep difficulties, substance use, and eating disorders.

From there, we shape a treatment plan around the goals that matter most to you. My work rests on evidence-based medication management, and I never move forward until you fully understand each recommendation. Should medication become part of the plan, I will explain the likely benefits, side effects, and realistic timelines with complete transparency. My years as an Army sergeant and a competitive athlete gave me a lasting respect for preparation, honest communication, and showing up fully for those relying on me, and that same commitment follows me into every life I have the privilege of supporting.

I also practice with cultural humility, mindful that your heritage, your identity, and your lived experiences shape your mental health in ways that deserve sincere and genuine respect. You are owed care that honors every part of who you are, never reduced to a diagnosis, and remains devoted and steady beside you across the entirety of your healing journeys. You will leave our first session feeling heard, understood, and genuinely hopeful about the truly meaningful path ahead.
