Great to meet you!

Hi, I’m Zakia Frederick, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC). I specialize in medication management and work with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma-related conditions, and other mood disorders.

My background in emergency and inpatient psychiatric care has shaped how I approach treatment. I’ve worked with individuals in crisis and understand how overwhelming mental health challenges can feel when support is hard to access. Because of that, I focus on practical, effective care that helps you feel better and function in your daily life as quickly and safely as possible.

I take a straightforward and collaborative approach. My goal is to create a space where you feel heard, respected, and involved in your treatment decisions. Whether you’re starting treatment for the first time or looking for a provider who will listen and thoughtfully adjust your care, I’m here to help.

I provide telehealth appointments for convenience and accessibility, making it easier to get consistent care without disrupting your routine.

My approach to therapy

My approach to care is collaborative, practical, and focused on results. I specialize in medication management and work closely with clients to create treatment plans that are both effective and sustainable.

I start by taking the time to understand your symptoms, history, and goals. From there, we develop a plan together that may include medication, lifestyle adjustments, and coordination with therapy when appropriate. I prioritize clear communication so you understand why a medication is being recommended, what to expect, and how we will monitor progress.

My background in emergency and inpatient psychiatry has shaped a calm, solution-focused approach. I am comfortable working with individuals experiencing high levels of distress and aim to stabilize symptoms while building a plan for long-term improvement.

Follow-up is an important part of care. I make thoughtful adjustments based on how you’re responding and ensure you feel supported throughout the process. My goal is not just symptom relief, but helping you regain stability, confidence, and control in your daily life.

What you can expect from me

In our first session, you can expect a structured but relaxed conversation focused on understanding what’s been going on and how it’s impacting your daily life.

We’ll review your current symptoms, mental health history, medical background, and any previous treatments. I’ll also ask about your goals so we can align your treatment plan with what matters most to you.

If appropriate, we may discuss medication options during the first visit. I will walk you through the reasoning behind any recommendations, including benefits, potential side effects, and what to expect moving forward. You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions and be fully involved in the decision-making process.

By the end of the session, the goal is for you to leave with a clear understanding of your next steps, whether that includes starting or adjusting medication, referrals to therapy, or additional support.

I aim to create a calm, non-judgmental environment where you feel comfortable being open and confident in your care plan from the start.
