Great to meet you!

Zlatoslava (Z) Karga, DNP, PMHNP-BC Board-Certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

I am a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) with a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree and the owner of Karga Psychiatric Nursing. I provide compassionate, evidence-based psychiatric care for adults experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, mood disorders, OCD, and other mental health concerns.

I believe that the best treatment begins with listening. Every person has a unique story, and I strive to create a welcoming, judgment-free space where you feel heard, respected, and supported. Together, we will develop a personalized treatment plan that may include medication management, supportive therapy, education, and practical strategies to help you achieve your goals.

My approach is collaborative and focused on long-term wellness rather than simply treating symptoms. I value open communication and believe that building a trusting therapeutic relationship is one of the most important parts of successful care. Whether you are seeking help for a new concern or have been managing mental health challenges for years, I will work alongside you every step of the way.

My goal is to provide thoughtful, individualized care that helps you feel better, build resilience, and improve your overall quality of life.

My approach to therapy

I believe every patient deserves a fresh start. While I carefully review previous diagnoses, treatment records, and medication history, I don’t assume they tell the whole story. I approach each person with an open mind and take the time to understand who you are, what you’ve experienced, and whether your previous diagnosis and treatment still fit your current situation. Sometimes they do, and sometimes we discover something different.

One of my greatest strengths is listening. I take the time to understand your story rather than focusing only on symptoms. My goal is to identify the root of what is happening so we can develop a treatment plan that truly fits your needs instead of relying on a one-size-fits-all approach.

Patients often appreciate that I am responsive, compassionate, and genuinely invested in their care. I strive to answer questions promptly, provide clear explanations, and create a space where you feel heard and respected.

My communication style is honest and straightforward. I believe that clear, open conversations are an important part of building trust. While I always aim to be kind and respectful, I won’t avoid difficult topics or tell you only what you want to hear. My goal is to provide thoughtful, evidence-based guidance while working together to help you achieve lasting improvement.

I am passionate about psychiatry and consider it a privilege to be part of each patient’s journey toward better mental health.

What you can expect from me

During your first appointment, my goal is to get to know you as a whole person, not just your symptoms. I like to take my time so I can better understand your concerns, your experiences, and what has brought you to seek care at this point in your life.

During the intake, I will ask questions about your childhood, adolescent years, and important life experiences that may have shaped your emotional and mental well-being. We will also review your current symptoms, previous mental health treatment, therapists or psychiatrists you have seen, hospitalizations, and any psychiatric medications you have taken in the past, including what worked well and what did not.

Your medical history is equally important. Please be prepared to discuss your current medical conditions, past surgeries, allergies, and all medications and supplements you are currently taking. I will also ask about your family’s medical and psychiatric history, as this information can provide valuable insight into your care.

Please don’t be surprised if we spend most of the first visit gathering information rather than focusing immediately on medication management. A thoughtful evaluation helps me make safe, informed recommendations instead of rushing to prescribe a medication that may not be the best fit. Of course, every situation is unique, and if there is an urgent concern, I will address it appropriately. I approach every patient as an individual, and treatment decisions are always made on a case-by-case basis.

My goal is for you to leave the first appointment feeling heard, understood, and with a clear plan for the next steps in your treatment.
