Great to meet you!

My name is Dr. Aaron Jackson. I have been working in behavioral healthcare for over 20 years. I have worked in community mental health and in private practice. I have been teaching in professional counseling programs since I graduated from The College of William & Mary with a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision, with a specialization in Marriage, Couples, and Family Counseling. I am licensed to practice in West Virginia, North Carolina, and Virginia. I am also a National Certified Counselor (NCC).

My approach to therapy

I draw heavily from Cognitive Behavioral Theory and Solution Focused Theory in my work as a counselor. When working with families, I base my clinical work in the context of Structural Family Therapy. I also work from a strengths-based perspective in that I try to utilize the positive aspects of a client’s life as we work toward solutions and growth. I welcome clients who wish to integrate their faith in the counseling process. As such, the use of prayer and other faith-based techniques/interventions may be used. The decision to integrate faith and spirituality into your therapy is your own decision, and these practices will never be forced upon you.

What you can expect from me

During our first session, we will spend time discussing what changes you want to make, and we will start discussing how, through your investment in the therapeutic process, these changes may happen. We will also spend time getting to know each other, so that we can make sure we are a good fit, and can work together effectively.
