Great to meet you!

My name is Dr. Abimbola Ossai, and I am a board-certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with a Master of Science in Nursing from Frontier School of Midwifery & Family Nursing. I am the owner of Belmek Psychiatry and Wellness LLC. I am passionate about providing compassionate, evidence-based mental health care to individuals and families navigating some of life's most challenging experiences.

I specialize in the evaluation and treatment of mood disorders, including bipolar disorder and depression, as well as anxiety, panic disorders, ADHD, PTSD, and anger management. I also work with individuals and families facing relationship difficulties and family-related stressors.

In my practice, I draw on Motivational Interviewing to help clients tap into their own strengths and build meaningful, lasting change. For families, I incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Family Therapy to improve communication, address patterns of conflict, and foster healthier connections. I offer both individual and family therapy sessions.

I believe that every person deserves a safe, non-judgmental space to be heard and supported. My goal is to meet you where you are and work collaboratively with you toward healing, growth, and a better quality of life. I look forward to being a part of your journey.

My approach to therapy

My approach to care is collaborative, client-centered, and grounded in evidence-based practice. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is the foundation of meaningful progress — before anything else, I work to create an environment where clients feel genuinely seen, respected, and safe to share their experiences without fear of judgment.

With individual clients, I use Motivational Interviewing to explore ambivalence, strengthen internal motivation, and help clients reconnect with their own values and goals. Rather than prescribing a path forward, I ask questions, listen deeply, and help clients discover the "why" behind the changes they want to make — because lasting change comes from within.

For families, I draw on Cognitive Behavioral Family Therapy (CBFT) to identify unhelpful thought and behavioral patterns that may be contributing to conflict, disconnection, or distress. Together, we work on building healthier communication, improving understanding between family members, and developing practical tools that families can use long after our sessions end.

Across all of my work — whether addressing bipolar disorder, anxiety, depression, ADHD, PTSD, or relationship challenges — I take a holistic view of each person. I consider not just symptoms, but life context, strengths, and goals. My style is warm and direct: I will support you, challenge you when it's helpful, and always keep your wellbeing at the center of our work together.

What you can expect from me

Your first session with me is not about having all the answers — it's about beginning to find them together. I want you to come as you are.

We'll start by getting to know each other. I'll ask about what's bringing you in, your personal and mental health history, and what your life looks and feels like day to day. For family sessions, I'll create space for each person to share their perspective so that everyone feels equally heard from the start.

My goal for the first session is simple: for you to leave feeling understood, not evaluated. I'll listen far more than I talk, and I'll ask questions designed to help us both get a clearer picture of what's going on — not to check boxes, but to genuinely understand your experience.

By the end of our first meeting, we'll begin to outline what you're hoping to get out of our work together and talk through an initial plan. Whether that involves individual therapy, family sessions, medication considerations, or a combination, we'll discuss options together and make decisions collaboratively — nothing happens without your input and agreement.

Most importantly, I want you to know: there is no "right" way to show up to a first appointment. Whether you arrive with a clear sense of what you need or feeling uncertain about where to even begin, that's okay. We'll figure it out together.
