Great to meet you!

Hi, my name is Akeshia Lewis and I'm the owner of Phoenix Effect Therapy. It's my mission to assist young adults with setting goals that will produce the life they desire. With my eclectic approach towards counseling, I will utilize different interventions to address issues with work-life balance, conflict resolution , career concerns, parenting, workplace concerns, relationships concerns, women issues and college student concern. As a teacher turned counselor, I believe early childhood experiences play a major role in our future perception of life. Negative experiences with family, friends and society can impact how an individual communicates, as well as feel towards themselves and others. As your therapist, I will provide an environment that is supportive and culturally responsive as you embark on your journey of being your authentic self.

My approach to therapy

I believe therapy is a collaborative journey where you can feel heard, supported, and empowered to create meaningful change. As a Black female therapist, I provide a warm, culturally responsive, and nonjudgmental space where clients can safely explore life's challenges and build on their strengths.

I work with adults, women, parents, and college students experiencing work-life balance concerns, career transitions, workplace stress, conflict resolution, parenting challenges, relationship issues, women's concerns, and life transitions.

My approach is person-centered and tailored to your unique needs. I integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing, Bowen Family Systems Theory, Family-Focused Therapy, and Narrative Therapy to help clients develop healthy coping skills, improve communication, strengthen relationships, and create lasting change.

Together, we will identify patterns that may be holding you back, build practical strategies to manage life's challenges, and work toward goals that align with your values. I believe you are the expert on your own life, and my role is to provide support, guidance, and evidence-based tools that foster growth, resilience, and emotional well-being.

Whether you're navigating personal, family, academic, or professional challenges, I am committed to providing a safe, affirming environment where you can heal, grow, and create a more balanced and fulfilling life.

What you can expect from me

During our first session, you can expect a welcoming, supportive, and judgment-free environment where we begin getting to know one another. We'll discuss what brings you to therapy, your current concerns, personal history, strengths, and the goals you hope to achieve. I'll also answer any questions you have about the therapy process so you know what to expect moving forward.

This session is an opportunity for us to build a strong therapeutic relationship and determine how we can best work together. We'll collaborate to create a treatment plan that reflects your unique needs, values, and goals. My priority is to ensure you feel heard, respected, and comfortable as we begin your journey toward healing, growth, and lasting change.
