Great to meet you!

I am a dual board-certified Nurse Practitioner in both Pediatric Primary Care and Psychiatry with well over twenty years of collective experiences domestically and abroad in healthcare, medical provision, and mental health. Specializing in children, adolescents, and young adults, I am deeply committed to helping our younger generation acquire an optimal sense of self, greater happiness and life satisfaction, along with a stronger commitment to future success and personal achievement.

In addition to both a BSc. in psychology and post Master's work in psychiatry, my Pediatric Nurse Practitioner training at Johns Hopkins University has had the largest impact upon my practice. I place a primary focus upon both a medical model of psychiatric care along with a firm understanding of systems of health and wellness such as mind/body symmetry, family and community dynamics, and cultural alignment. I believe that collaboration, empathy, proper assessment, psychotherapy, pharmacology, support, and encouragement are among the most important elements when creating and sustaining a fully functional therapeutic relationship.

With expertise in childhood, adolescent, and young adult mental health, I am happy to see patients from 3 to 25 years of age who need help in many areas including anxiety and depression management, ADHD, adoption, foster care, mood and eating disorders, trauma, panic, grief and loss, and stress. Often overlooked, I also welcome high achieving students from a variety of areas such as academics or music, who feel overwhelmed or lost, along with serving the particular and varying conditions of student athletes.

When not working I am outside using my body and mind to enjoy the beauty of the world... strong bodies, strong minds! Please reach out if you feel we might be able to build a productive therapeutic partnership!

My approach to therapy

I am dedicated to serving each patient as a whole person, with a background, a present, and a future... not simply a diagnosis. My ability to listen, hear, and understand is central to the process of providing a useful toolkit and skill set to ensure an improved quality of life through personal growth and empowerment.

Accepting, authentic, curious, affirming, validating, and hopeful are characteristics that shape my practice and my specific interaction with every unique patient. I want each patient to achieve a greater sense of self-sufficiency based upon an increased realization of confidence, emotional maturity, and realistic expectations. Additionally the therapy I provide relies heavily upon several theories from life-span development, cognitive and behavioral psychology, Gestalt psychology, humanism, social and biological psychology, identity studies, and personality psychology. I believe in the power and strength that lies within each of us to change for the better, and I am eager to help my patients see that power within themselves!

What you can expect from me

Sometimes taking the first step toward psychiatric therapy may feel a bit overwhelming and perhaps even frightening, though at other times it may be something that someone has looked forward to for quite a while... or somewhere in-between. Regardless, our first visit will be a relaxed conversation. I want to know about you, your family, your relationships, how school is going, your hobbies, goals, and what brought you to me. I see patients virtually as often as is needed, and have experienced a richer more meaningful therapeutic outcome by meeting in-person at least every three months. I want you to feel heard, understood, and excited about the positive changes we can work on together!
