Great to meet you!

Hi, I'm Amber Finck, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I earned my bachelor's degree in Social Work from Texas Tech University in 2014 and my Master of Science in Social Work from Abilene Christian University in 2018. After relocating to northeastern North Carolina with my husband in 2022, I began my clinical social work career.

My background in social work has taken me into homes, schools, medical settings, and communities. Before becoming a therapist, I worked in family-based services with Child Protective Services, helping families develop parenting skills, navigate challenges, and access resources to keep their families together. I also developed school-based programs through Communities In Schools and coordinated community initiatives to support children and families. These experiences taught me the importance of looking beyond someone's immediate struggles to understand the relationships, experiences, and circumstances that have shaped their lives.

Today, I work with children, adolescents, and adults navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, grief, relationship challenges, and major life transitions. I particularly enjoy helping teens and young adults build confidence, find their voice, establish healthy boundaries, and navigate the challenges of growing up and becoming independent. I also have a special interest in supporting individuals experiencing infertility, pregnancy loss, and grief.

As a Christian, my faith is an important part of who I am. I welcome incorporating Christian beliefs and values into therapy for clients who desire it, while providing a welcoming and respectful space for individuals of all faiths and backgrounds.

My approach to therapy

I believe there's often more to what we're struggling with than what appears on the surface. Rather than focusing only on symptoms, I want to understand what's behind them—your experiences, relationships, environment, and the patterns you may not even realize are affecting your life. Sometimes that means exploring the past, and other times it means figuring out how to handle what's happening right now.

My approach is person-centered, trauma-informed, and grounded in my social work background. I believe in meeting you where you are, not where someone else thinks you should be. I don't expect you to have all the answers, and I'm not here to tell you what your life should look like. We'll work together to understand what's going on, identify what's within your control, and find ways to make changes that actually fit your life.

I value genuine relationships, honest conversations, and a little humor when appropriate. Therapy doesn't always have to feel formal, and I want you to feel comfortable enough to talk about the difficult things while also recognizing your strengths and the progress you're making. I can offer a different perspective, challenge patterns that may be holding you back, and help you develop practical skills you can use beyond our sessions.

What you can expect from me

Our first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and begin understanding what brought you to therapy. I want to hear your story, understand what you're currently struggling with, and learn how your experiences, relationships, and circumstances may be affecting your life. We'll talk about your concerns, relevant history, and what you're hoping to gain from therapy.

I believe trust takes time, and I don't expect you to walk into our first session ready to share everything. My approach is caring but direct. I'll ask questions, listen, and take the time to understand your perspective rather than make assumptions. As we build trust, I'm not afraid to ask difficult questions, offer honest feedback, or challenge patterns that may be keeping you stuck. But I also believe it's important to meet you where you are and respect your readiness to explore difficult experiences.

Together, we'll begin identifying your goals and discussing what our work might look like. You don't need to have everything figured out before we meet. My hope is that you leave our first session feeling a little more comfortable, knowing what to expect, and having a starting point for the work ahead.
