Great to meet you!

Hi, I'm Amber Kovach, a licensed mental health counselor and the founder of Counseling with Amber PLLC. I hold a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Johns Hopkins University and am licensed in Florida, Maryland, and Ohio, with additional specialization in ADHD and autism. I especially enjoy working with neurodivergent adults (ADHD, autism, or AuDHD), as well as individuals navigating anxiety, burnout, executive functioning challenges, emotional regulation, masking, life transitions, and self-understanding. My goal is to provide a space where clients can feel understood and gain practical tools that fit their lives.

My approach to therapy

My approach is warm, collaborative, practical, and neurodivergent-affirming. I primarily use person-centered and cognitive-behavioral approaches while also incorporating strengths-based, psychoeducational, solution-focused, and other strategies tailored to each client’s needs. I believe therapy should help you understand yourself more deeply while also providing you with practical & realistic tools for navigating everyday challenges. Rather than expecting clients to fit into one specific therapeutic approach, I work with you to find strategies that feel sustainable, meaningful, and aligned with how your brain and life actually work.

What you can expect from me

Your first session is an opportunity for us to begin getting to know each other, explore what brought you to therapy, and identify what you would like support with. We’ll discuss your current concerns, relevant background, strengths, and goals as we begin developing a plan that feels realistic and individualized for you. I aim to create a comfortable, nonjudgmental virtual environment where you do not have to have everything figured out before you arrive. You can expect our work to be collaborative, with space for both meaningful conversation and practical strategies you can begin using in your daily life. When therapeutically appropriate, I may also incorporate thoughtful self-disclosure when I believe it could support connection, normalize an experience, or help move you toward your goals.
