Great to meet you!

Hello! My name is Amy Fort, and I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with three years of experience in helping individuals, couples and families navigate life's challenges. I earned my Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy from Capella University, and I hold certifications in Nature Based Therapy and am EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) trained. I specialize in anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues and co-parenting; and I am passionate about supporting my clients through their unique journeys toward healing and self-discovery.

My approach is collaborative, with a focus on creating a safe and non-judgmental space where you can feel comfortable exploring your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Therapy, Feminist Family Therapy and Nature Based Therapy and I tailor my methods to each client’s specific needs.

Whether you're looking to work through past trauma, manage anxiety, improve relationships, or simply gain insight into your current challenges, I’m here to help. My goal is to help you develop the tools and skills needed to live a more fulfilling and balanced life. I offer both virtual and in-person sessions, and I’m committed to providing the highest quality care.

A bit about my approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is client-centered, which means that I believe in tailoring each session to meet the unique needs and goals of the individual. I work collaboratively with my clients to create a safe, empathetic, and non-judgmental environment where they can explore their feelings, challenges, and strengths. My primary goal is to empower you to gain insight into your life and develop the skills and strategies necessary to make positive changes.

I use a blend of therapeutic techniques, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients understand and reframe unhelpful thoughts and behaviors, and Mindfulness-Based Therapy to foster present-moment awareness and emotional regulation. I also incorporate Nature Based Therapy methods when clients are looking to use the nature and animals to ground themselves, and I integrate emotion-focused techniques to work through deep-rooted emotional issues.

Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, or past trauma, I strive to meet you where you are and provide support that aligns with your values and personal goals. I believe in working together to create a plan that helps you feel empowered to make lasting, meaningful changes in your life.

What you can expect from our first session

Clients who work with me can expect to take away a deeper understanding of themselves, along with practical tools and strategies to improve their well-being. My goal is to create a supportive, open environment where you can feel heard, valued, and empowered.

Throughout our sessions, you’ll develop greater self-awareness, learn healthier coping mechanisms, and gain skills to manage challenges more effectively. For example, if you're working through anxiety, you might leave a session with relaxation techniques, or if you're dealing with negative thought patterns, I’ll help you practice reframing and challenging those thoughts.

In addition to specific skills, I strive to foster a sense of emotional growth and self-compassion. Clients often walk away from sessions with a clearer perspective, feeling more confident in their ability to navigate life’s obstacles, improve relationships, and make choices aligned with their personal values.

Ultimately, I hope you will leave each session feeling more equipped to handle whatever challenges come your way, with a renewed sense of empowerment and insight into your personal growth.
