Great to meet you!

I am a Board-Certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with over 20 years in the mental health field. I have experience caring for individuals with mental health disorders in multiple settings including hospital in-patient units, home-based care, outpatient mental health clinics and intense community health programs.

I received both my nursing degree and advanced practice degree from University of Maryland, School of Nursing. I have since worked on inpatient psychiatric units, on an Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team, in clinics, a contractor with the state to complete disability evals and as a clinical instructor and research assistant.

I am proficient in treating adults with Depression, Bipolar Disorders, ADHD, PTSD, Schizophrenia, Co-Morbid Substance Abuse, OCD, and Anxiety Disorders. However, my expertise is in managing complex cases that involve co-morbid disorders such as complex medical problems, developmental disorders, intellectual disorders, brain injury and substance use disorders. I also specialize in managing individuals with forensic involvement and those experiencing their first psychotic break.

I provide integrative and comprehensive mental health care utilizing innovative medication delivery systems, groundbreaking new medications and novel individualized interventions (such as genetic testing). If you are not interested in medication management, I am also proficient in completing thorough psychiatric evaluations that may be required by other institutions.

My approach to therapy

I primarily work with the individual to manage symptoms with medication while promoting more comprehensive care including therapy, primary care and holistic approaches. Although, I can refer you to a therapist, I myself do not conduct therapy. I believe therapists are more properly trained for this type of work and I would be doing you an injustice in trying to provide you this service.

What you can expect from me

At the first visit I will complete a psychiatric history and provide education on medication options that I think would be helpful. The choice to take medication is completely up to you and we will discuss any concerns you might have. I will also provide insight into other treatment options that would be beneficial and supply you with resources to connect to those services if you wish.
