Great to meet you!

My name is Andrew and I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in the State of Maryland. I am also a freelance writer and musician. I have been working in the field of mental health since 2013 and have been blessed enough to work in a wide variety of settings such as residential centers, housing programs, comprehensive care clinics, and traditional counseling practices. Additionally, I have worked as a healthcare administrator and clinical supervisor. The greatest joy of my career has been getting to connect with and empower a wide variety of individuals who have come from all different walks of life.

Although practical work in the field has always been my greatest teacher, I have also had the privilege of learning the ins and outs of Psychology from several well-respected educational institutions. I received my Bachelors in Psychology in 2013 from Shepherd University and subsequently earned my Masters in Counseling Psychology from Frostburg State University in 2017. The most important thing I learned during my tenure as a student is that the amount of distance you help a person move forward in their life is meaningless if you don't help them move in the direction they wish to go.

My approach to therapy

I take a person-centered, holistic approach to counseling when working with individuals and also emphasize the importance of small steps and personal choice. I also view a person's life story as a fundamental narrative that can help them understand and, if needed, modify their patterns of being, beliefs, expectations, and desires. While working with people, I strive to maintain a non-judgmental approach and am committed to providing a safe environment for individuals of all religious backgrounds, gender identifies, and sexual orientations.

During my career as a mental health professional, I have gained significant experience working with individuals who have struggled with addiction, mood disorders, trauma, phase of life problems, interpersonal problems, identity issues, and self-esteem issues.

What you can expect from me

Transparency will be fundamental to our first meeting in order to lay a foundation for collaborative work. As such, we will first review what to expect from working with one another and we will also discuss expectations and boundaries of therapy. Furthermore, we will discuss any questions you have and process what you hope to gain from therapy. I will also review your family structure with you in order to help understand your background and your interpersonal network.
