Great to meet you!

I'm Anne-Marie, a licensed clinical social worker. I graduated about 25 years ago. My background in oncology, hospice, and palliative care especially prepares me to support folks through life changing illness, chronic pain, the end of life, and grief, but I've provided counseling and therapy in a variety of settings to clients of all ages with all sorts of problems. I find joy from connection with my family and friends, and from Rosie Dangercat and Percy, our four-legged companions. I love to be outside and I love to knit.

My approach to therapy

Above all, it is my privilege to witness your story and walk along the path with you for a little while. I draw inspiration from a number of different methods, but we will tailor our work together to create a process that works for you. Expect to talk about what brings you joy, where your strength lies, and to learn and practice a variety of strategies for tolerating distress and coping with hard situations. We will be creative and flexible, and work to find your resilience.

What you can expect from me

In the first session, we will take a few minutes to do what I call "housekeeping" where we will review paperwork and you will have the opportunity to ask questions about therapy, confidentiality, and my background. Then we will talk about what's bringing you to seek help right now-- if it's hard to talk, I can ask questions, or you can just take the floor. I'll ask questions about your life to help give me a better picture of you. We'll begin to identify a focus for our time together. I'll probably suggest an exercise to try or something to think about before we meet again.
