Great to meet you!

I love what I do! It is a gift to have people trust me with their vulnerability, emotions, and authentic self, and see them make lasting changes in their life. People come to therapy because they want something to change and want to better understand themselves, their relationships, and the world around them. Every person is different. It is important therapy adjust to individual needs.

It takes strength, courage, and determination to seek help. I have years of therapy experience with trauma/abuse, depression and mood concerns, anxiety, substance issues, relationship/family issues, grief, self-esteem, men's issues, gender and sexuality, identity, religion, career issues, and more. I'm a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) and Certified Group Psychotherapist (CGP). Licensed psychologist in North Carolina and Virginia. PsyPact certified. I have extensive experience with adults 18 - 60, and have specialized experience with undergraduate and graduate university students.

My approach to therapy

I am flexible and use a variety of techniques to promote change and healing. It is vital to collaborate on goals for treatment to focus and work efficiently so that therapy does not take forever to provide progress and change. I'm open, straight forward and direct, affirming, accepting, compassionate, and willing to challenge. I believe in transparency and direct communication. I use relational and psychodynamic, cognitive, IFS, mindfulness/meditation, art/creativity, dream interpretation, and other approaches to help. I welcome clients of different racial/ethnic, sexual, religious, gender and other identities. I work to build a solid therapy relationship, frequently discuss what is happening in the moment between us, and work to build on strengths that a person has while challenging what isn't working.

What you can expect from me

People typically notice reduction of symptoms in a few weeks of therapy, and more lasting change over time. Successful therapy builds hope! People gain insight into themselves and their struggles, learn more acceptance and self-compassion, and develop ways to heal shame. They learn skills to better manage anxiety, emotions, and challenging life situations, and learn to find the connections and relationships with others and self that they want to have. Together, we can help you feel better.
