Great to meet you!

Starting counseling for yourself or your child can feel overwhelming, and I want you to know that taking this step is meaningful and courageous. My role is to create a supportive, respectful space where you feel understood and encouraged as you work toward the changes you want in your life.

Throughout the counseling process, we’ll identify your strengths and build on them. Together, we’ll explore what’s getting in the way, what’s already working, and how to move forward in a way that feels realistic and aligned with your goals. You don’t have to have everything figured out before starting. We’ll take things one step at a time, at a pace that feels right for you.

My approach to therapy

My approach is collaborative, evidence-informed, and tailored to what you want help with. Therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all, so I adapt our work to your needs, experiences, and goals.

We start by clarifying what you want to be different in your life and how we’ll know therapy is helping. I prioritize safety, trust, and a nonjudgmental environment, moving at a pace that feels manageable. Rather than focusing only on symptoms, we look at patterns across thoughts, emotions, behaviors, relationships, and past experiences so change is sustainable, not just short-term relief.

I also take a trauma-informed and culturally responsive approach, considering how stress, trauma, identity, and environment shape your experiences. Throughout our work, I check in regularly about what’s working and what isn’t so we can adjust together.

What you can expect from me

In our first session, you can expect a structured but supportive conversation focused on understanding what brings you in and what you’d like to change. There’s no pressure to share everything at once. You’re always in control of what you choose to discuss.

We’ll cover a few basics, like how I work, confidentiality and its limits, and logistics such as scheduling. We’ll talk about what’s been most challenging lately, what prompted you to seek counseling now, and any background that feels relevant. You’re welcome to share as much or as little as you’re comfortable with.

We’ll also begin identifying goals for therapy and, if needed, focus on immediate coping or stabilization. If safety concerns are relevant, we’ll address those thoughtfully and collaboratively.

Most people leave the first session feeling clearer about what’s going on, supported, and with an initial plan for next steps. Often, you’ll also walk away with one or two practical tools to try between sessions.
