Great to meet you!

Hello and welcome. My name is Barb and I am an LCSW-C located in Frederick County, MD. Over the past 2 decades in the mental health field, I have developed a comprehensive understanding of various therapeutic techniques and methodologies from working in clinical out-patient and hospital based settings with children, teens, couples and adults. For the past 11 years, I've been doing private practice based work and have been primarily virtual since 2023. I attended the University of Maryland at College Park for my Bachelor’s in Psychology and then received my Masters in Clinical Social Work (with a minor in Program Administration) from the University of Maryland in Baltimore in 2001.

I currently provide telehealth therapy to adult women ages 18-65 years old experiencing depression, anxiety, ADHD, low self esteem, single motherhood, burnout from career, family responsibilities, and relationships, problems in their marriage, family or personal life, chronic health/medical issues that impact mental health, and trauma from current or past relationships. I also work with women dealing with fertility issues, complicated pregnancy, infant loss, premature delivery, and post partum mental health and adjustment issues. I have a lot of experience working with teachers and nurses. Also, being a single mother myself, I'm aware of the unique challenges single moms deal with and can offer a relatable perspective to women in this satiation.

I currently do not provide therapy to men.

As a Christian, I'm happy to discuss with you how to use Scripture, prayer and your relationship with God to support you in your path to wellness, health and healing in your sessions if that is something that is important to you. I am open to clients of all faiths and backgrounds. If your faith or spiritual beliefs are important to you, we can discuss how to integrate those into our sessions.

A bit about my approach to therapy

If you are an adult female and you have a strong desire to work on yourself, your relationships and take steps to become the best version of yourself, then I may be the right person for you. A huge focus of therapy with me is learning how to change unhealthy thoughts and behaviors, into healthy ones. We do this by learning how to identify our unhealthy thoughts, mental scripts and coping strategies, and then identifying healthy replacement thoughts and behaviors for you to practice working on until they become your go-to effective coping strategies, replacing things that no longer serve you or others. If you are ready to actively work on addressing the issues in your life that are causing problems, learn how to develop a growth mindset and overcome challenges you are facing, then please contact me and let's get you started on a new, better path.

There are no quick fixes in therapy. It is a process where we work together in helping you be the best version of yourself. Through therapy I can help you figure out how you need to grow and change and provide and teach tools, knowledge and skills in order to help you do that. I use a mix of clinical modalities in my work with clients such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Rational Emotive Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Person Centered Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy. Therapy with me is collaborative and we will work together on establishing your goals and what you will be working on in and out of therapy.

What you can expect from our first session

Together, we will identify your challenges and goals - where you want your life to be in a month, six months, or a year from now. Then, we will identify options and strategies you can use to get there. You'll leave your first session with a better understanding of what you're facing and a plan that includes specific steps you can start taking to get to where you want to be. You will also leave knowing that you have an ally and advocate on your side that will support you with compassion, honesty and empathy along the way, who is committed to supporting you as you take steps to improve of your health and well being.
