Great to meet you!

Hi, I'm Dr. Breanna Thornton — a licensed psychologist based in Michigan with a deep passion for the intersection of physical health, mental well-being, and whole-person care.

My background is rooted in health psychology, and I specialize in helping individuals navigate the psychological side of chronic illness and pain — whether that's adjusting to a new diagnosis like diabetes, heart disease, or stroke, managing health-interfering behaviors, or finding meaning through end-of-life concerns. I also work with individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, ADHD, grief, disordered eating, mood difficulties, and substance use. For those who find that spirituality or faith is central to their healing, I'm glad to integrate that into our work together.

My approach to therapy

My approach is eclectic and always tailored to you — rooted in psychodynamic theory, with tools drawn from ACT, mindfulness, emotional regulation, guided imagery, and skill-based coping. I also weave in holistic and lifestyle medicine perspectives, because I believe that true wellness lives at the crossroads of mind, body, spirit, and community.

What you can expect from me

You'll find me down-to-earth, direct, and compassionate — and yes, I bring a dose of humor when the moment calls for it. I don't see myself as the expert on your life; I see us as co-pilots. You are always the authority on yourself. My job is to help you slow down, tune out the noise, and start listening to what's already inside you.

I was drawn to this field through a personal belief that every person has the capacity to achieve wellness through uncomplicated self-compassion — and I'd be honored to be part of that journey with you.

I work with adults and occasionally adolescents. I offer telehealth sessions only and am currently accepting new clients.
