Great to meet you!

Welcome! My name is Bria Smith and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Michigan and I am also licensed in New Jersey. I received my Bachelor's degree from Oakland University and shortly went on and received my Master's degree from Wayne State University. My clinical focus during my Master's program was in the Psychodynamic Theory and the Family Systems Theory. Most of my work history has been in community mental health, so I had the privilege of being exposed to many different types of mental health concerns and diagnoses (i.e. anxiety, depression, personality disorders and bipolar disorders). I understand the complexity of the human experience and I’m fully aware there is no “one size fits alI” treatment approach for everyone. This is why I prioritize meeting my individuals where they are and figuring out what is going to work best to serve them at that time! I am eager to collaborate with individuals and help them see realistic and sustainable change in their lives.

My approach to therapy

My greatest strengths as a therapist have been my ability to connect with individuals quickly by finding the common ground between us, my ability to see things from my client's perspective and gently provide alternative perspectives, and my eagerness to see my clients win! I am also very empathetic, but I am able to be objective, so my clients are getting the feedback they need.

What you can expect from me

Our first session will mainly consist of introductions, a conversation about your expectations as my client and me getting to know you a bit and what presenting problems you find yourself facing. Most of my clients find this appointment to be very easygoing and more of a conversation versus a impersonal interview. The goal is for you to feel confident in continuing on with therapy!
