Great to meet you!

I'm Dr. Cara Alexander, a psychotherapist and international psychologist with over 25 years of experience helping high-achieving individuals who look successful on the outside but struggle with anxiety, depression, and the exhausting feeling of never being "enough." Having served as both a CEO and Senior Public Service leader across four continents, I understand firsthand the unique pressures of high-responsibility roles and the disconnect between external success and internal fulfillment. I specialize in what I call "connection therapy" using my Connected Leadership framework, helping professionals, parents, and young adults move from performing perfection to living authentically. My approach integrates evidence-based therapy with deep understanding of perfectionism, relationship disconnection, and the psychological challenges that successful people face when everyone expects them to "have it all together." If you're tired of feeling isolated despite your achievements and ready to reconnect with who you truly are beneath the performance, I'm here to help you find your way back to yourself

My approach to therapy

My approach begins with establishing authentic connection where you feel truly seen for who you are beneath your achievements, then we collaboratively explore how disconnection patterns developed and more importantly, how to create genuine connection in your daily life. I integrate evidence-based methods like cognitive-behavioral therapy and mindfulness with my unique Connected Leadership framework, focusing on three core areas: recognizing your inherent worth beyond external validation, embracing authentic excellence rather than exhausting perfectionism, and learning to respond from your values instead of reacting from anxiety or fear. Rather than just managing symptoms, we address the root psychological patterns that keep high-achievers feeling "never enough" despite their success, helping you develop the capacity to set boundaries without guilt, pursue goals from self-love rather than self-criticism, and show up authentically in relationships. My clients often describe feeling genuinely understood for the first time—not just for what they do, but for their full humanity—as we work together to transform performing into authentic living. You'll gain practical tools for managing anxiety and stress while reconnecting with the person you've always been underneath the endless pressure to prove your worth.

What you can expect from me

Your first session begins with me creating a psychological safe, judgment-free space where you can share openly about what brought you here, and many clients are surprised by how quickly they feel genuinely understood rather than analyzed or judged. We'll collaboratively explore your current challenges, goals, and what's most important to you right now, while I help you recognize patterns of disconnection that may be affecting your relationships, work satisfaction, or sense of fulfillment. I'll conduct a gentle assessment of your background and experiences, paying attention to how perfectionism, anxiety, or the pressure to constantly prove your worth might be impacting your daily life and well-being. Together we'll develop a personalized roadmap for your healing journey using my Connected Leadership approach, focusing on practical steps you can begin taking immediately to start reconnecting with your authentic self. By the end of our first session, you'll have clarity about how we'll work together and often feel the first glimpse of relief that someone finally understands the weight you've been carrying—and more importantly, that there's a path forward to feeling genuinely connected and fulfilled.
