Great to meet you!

Hello, and welcome. I’m Dr. Caryanne Pope, a board-certified geropsychologist (ABPP) and licensed psychologist in Arkansas. I specialize in helping adults and older adults who are navigating complex emotional, cognitive, or life-stage challenges, particularly those struggling to identify their emotions (alexithymia), coping with the aging process, or living with trauma histories.

I bring over 20 years of clinical experience across inpatient, outpatient, and neuropsychological settings, including nearly a decade of service with the VA Healthcare System, where I worked extensively with veterans facing cognitive decline, PTSD, and chronic mental health conditions. I’ve also provided therapy and cognitive rehabilitation in hospital, residential, and community settings.

Clients often describe my style as calm, compassionate, and thoughtful. I believe therapy should be both respectful and collaborative, a space where you can be heard, understood, and guided toward meaningful change. I use cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), informed by neuropsychological principles and tailored to the specific needs of each client. I take care to explain what we're doing and why, and I move at your pace.

I earned my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Georgia and completed both an APA-accredited internship and postdoctoral fellowship specializing in geropsychology and neuropsychology. I’m also trained in trauma-focused care and have published peer-reviewed research on emotional processing and military trauma.

Whether you are dealing with memory issues, emotional disconnection, caregiver stress, or the transition to later life, I welcome you. My practice is fully telehealth, allowing you to access support from the comfort of your home, anywhere in Arkansas.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is grounded in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), combined with a deep understanding of neuropsychology, aging, and trauma. I strive to provide a structured yet flexible environment where clients feel safe, respected, and genuinely understood.

I work collaboratively with each individual to clarify goals, build emotional awareness, and develop practical tools for coping and growth. Whether we’re exploring unspoken emotions, addressing cognitive or memory concerns, or processing complex life transitions, I tailor therapy to your specific needs and pace.

For individuals struggling with alexithymia, I help build emotional vocabulary and insight using evidence-based strategies that gently promote self-awareness. With older adults, I bring specialized expertise in geropsychology to address depression, anxiety, grief, and cognitive changes in later life. My background in neuropsychological assessment also allows me to identify and treat overlapping medical, emotional, and cognitive conditions that may affect daily functioning.

I take a compassionate, collaborative stance, therapy with me is not just about insight, but about finding meaningful ways to improve your day-to-day life, relationships, and sense of purpose.

What you can expect from me

Clients who work with me can expect a structured, supportive, and judgment-free space where they are encouraged to explore thoughts, emotions, and patterns at their own pace. My goal is to help you feel understood, build emotional clarity, and develop practical strategies to improve your daily life.

You can expect to:

· Increase your ability to identify and express emotions, especially if you’ve felt emotionally disconnected or misunderstood

· Develop healthier thought patterns and coping skills using evidence-based cognitive-behavioral strategies

· Gain insight into cognitive or memory changes, particularly if you’re navigating aging or neurological concerns

· Feel more empowered, confident, and equipped to handle life transitions, stress, or long-standing emotional challenges

· Experience a collaborative process where we set clear goals and adapt our work based on your evolving needs

I strive to create an atmosphere that is calm, respectful, and clinically grounded, where your autonomy is honored and your progress is measurable. Whether you’re coming to therapy to better understand yourself, improve your emotional awareness, or manage the complexities of later life, my aim is for you to leave each session with greater clarity, stability, and direction.
