Great to meet you!

I have known I wanted to be a clinical psychologist since I was 19 years old. The journey has taken me from UNC Chapel Hill where I completed my undergraduate degree in Psychology to the University of Louisville where I was a full time researcher for 4 years to our nation's capitol where I earned my PhD. I have learned so much from every person I have had the privilege to work with over the last 16 years from volunteering in college to my own clinical caseload through externships, internship, and post-doc. I have learned from some of the best practitioners in this field and feel fortunate to provide evidence-based therapy in a client-centered way with special attention to strengths.

My approach to therapy

I consider myself an integrationist, which is really just a big word for my belief that we bring our whole selves to therapy and that who we are has value and being that we are each unique, we need a unique approach that still finds its basis in science. I believe in the practice of getting curious with my clients about what is bringing them to therapy and how using science we can work together to help clients meet their goals. I have many tools that I have learned over the years and not every tool is right for every person but I believe there is a tool that works for most people. I know it takes a brave person to come to therapy and I want to honor that bravery.

What you can expect from me

Clients should expect me to ask them about their goals, to ask lots of questions to get to know them, and for me to continuously check in about their progress. Therapy is a two way street so clients should know that they will be welcome to ask questions of me and express concerns or frustrations. I also believe that the work that we do outside of therapy is important, so clients should expect to have practice exercises to complete outside of session in service of their goals.
