Great to meet you!

Welcome! I am Dr. Chioma Onwuakpa, DNP, PMHNP-BC, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner dedicated to providing compassionate, personalized, and evidence-based mental health care. I work with children, adolescents, and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, bipolar disorder, and other mental health concerns, taking time to understand the unique experiences, strengths, and challenges that shape each person's journey. I believe in caring for the whole person, not just treating symptoms, by thoughtfully putting all the pieces together, including your emotional, physical, lifestyle, and social well-being, to develop a treatment plan tailored specifically to your needs and goals.

In addition to my psychiatric training, I completed Lifestyle and Wellness Coach training through Harvard Medical School, which allows me to incorporate evidence-based lifestyle strategies into treatment whenever appropriate. My goal is to create a warm, welcoming, and judgment-free environment where you feel heard, respected, and empowered to actively participate in your care. Whether you're seeking medication management, guidance through a difficult season of life, or support in achieving lasting emotional wellness, I am committed to partnering with you to help you build resilience, restore balance, and improve your overall quality of life.

My approach to therapy

My approach to care is centered on one simple belief: every person deserves to be heard, understood, and treated as a whole, not just as a diagnosis. I take time to understand how your mental health is influenced by your life experiences, relationships, physical health, stress, sleep, nutrition, and daily habits so we can develop a treatment plan that truly fits your needs. While medication can be an important part of treatment, I also believe lasting wellness comes from addressing the many factors that contribute to emotional well-being.

I provide compassionate, evidence-based psychiatric care while partnering with you every step of the way. Together, we'll explore treatment options, set realistic goals, and make informed decisions that align with your values, preferences, and lifestyle. Drawing on my training as a Lifestyle and Wellness Coach through Harvard Medical School, I integrate evidence-based lifestyle strategies into treatment when appropriate to support your overall health and long-term emotional wellness. Whether this is your first time seeking mental health care or you're continuing your journey, my priority is to ensure you feel safe, respected, and actively involved in every decision about your treatment. My goal is for every client to leave each session feeling heard, supported, empowered, and hopeful, knowing they have a trusted partner in their journey toward healing and a healthier, more fulfilling life.

What you can expect from me

I understand that taking the first step toward mental health care can feel overwhelming, and my goal is to make your first visit as comfortable and supportive as possible. During our first session, we'll talk about what brought you to treatment, your personal and medical history, your current challenges, and the goals you'd like to achieve. I take a holistic approach, looking beyond symptoms to understand how your emotional, physical, and lifestyle factors work together so we can create a treatment plan that's personalized to you. We'll discuss treatment options, including medication if appropriate, and I'll answer your questions so you feel informed and involved in every decision. Most importantly, I want you to leave our session feeling heard, understood, supported, and confident that you have a trusted partner committed to helping you achieve lasting emotional wellness.
