Great to meet you!

I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC), Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA-D), Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC), Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC), and Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA). I was a Director at the Blue Ridge Autism and Achievement Center as well as taught as an Adjunct Professor in the Counselor Education Department at Virginia Tech prior to opening a private practice based out of Statesville, NC. I also travel nationally and internationally consulting and training professionals. I have published numerous articles in professional journals which include, among other topics, research in the evaluation of distance education and “high tech” counseling. I have also published on the topic of Autism and Early Identification as well as completed my first children’s book entitled “Oh No, Not The Shot” to help children cope the fear of going to the doctor.

My approach to therapy

I have experience working with individuals who have been going through a broad range of concerns including excessive worry, depression, stress management, trauma, career eploration, behavioral concerns, impulsivity, child-parent interactions, grief and loss, relationship issues, life/work balance, and overall wellness. I would describe my approach as goal oriented and client centered. I primarily uses Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Both modalities involve practical approaches to problem-solving. I additionally use Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT).

What you can expect from me

Difficulties and pain are both part of the human experience and seeking help can feel very vulnerable. Exploring the healing process or enriching one’s personal growth, first and foremost, requires establishing a trusting and emotionally supportive relationship. During our first session we will complete an intake and discuss the steps you would like to take moving forward. Change is not easy, but it is possible and I look forward to working with you to set goals and work towards them.
