Great to meet you!

Cole is a Maryland-Licensed Certified Social Worker-Clinical (LCSW-C) with over nine years of experience in the mental health field, working initially in community health and psychiatric research, community outpatient mental health, college counseling, and private practice. Cole earned an undergraduate degree in sociology with a certificate in lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender studies from the University of Maryland. After graduating, he worked at Whitman Walker Health in Washington, DC, focusing on public, sexual, and mental health issues. Cole broadened his psychiatric research at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital and completed his masters degree in social work at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. He went on to work at the University of Maryland Medical System in an outpatient mental health clinic working with those primarily with addiction and SPMI. He transitioned into providing therapy at a local college and private practice working with issues such as life transitions, identity exploration, relationships, sex/sexuality, and working through areas of a client's life that feel stuck. In his free time, Cole likes to play board games and videogames with friends and do outdoor activities like stand-up paddleboarding and hiking.

My approach to therapy

In therapy, he employs the Rogerian humanistic approach by providing an empathetic and non-judgemental safe space which emphasizes the value and agency of all individuals. Cole utilizes a variety of therapeutic techniques and some humor, in order to assist clients in developing and improving coping skills, insight, emotion regulation, and overall well- being.

What you can expect from me

In the first session, you can expect to spend time getting to know more about you and what brings you into therapy. Cole strongly believes that the individuals are the experts in their life experience, and gives each person the space to share their story and plan the next steps in reaching their goals in therapy.
