Great to meet you!

I was born and raised in Canada, and relocated to the United States in my early adult years to pursue my education and other interests. I love having dual citizenship and honor both of my countries! I enjoy the game of hockey, hiking, and spending time with my family and my dog, Rex. I have 5 children and 6 grandchildren. I have licenses in Arizona and Idaho. I have worked primarily with adults, adolescents, couples and families, often navigating issues like anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, relationship conflict, stress management, self‐esteem issues, and more.

My approach to therapy

I believe that you are the expert of your story and have many strengths to bring to the table. Together, we can find and utilize effective tools to help improve your life and relationships. My 25 years of clinical practice in mental health have helped me understand the value of an individual. "Empathy has no script" as eloquently put by the foremost researcher on the subject, Brene Brown. There is no right or wrong way to do it. It is simply listening, holding space, withholding judgement, connecting and communicating the healing message that you are not alone in the struggle you are having at this time. I am here to provide that space for you while you work on life struggles and challenges. It takes courage and vulnerability to begin the therapy process. I consider it a privilege to hear your story and be part of this time in your life.

What you can expect from me

What to Expect in Our First Therapy Session

Below is an outline of what typically happens in first sessions so you can feel more at ease and prepared.

Session Outline

1. Introductions I’ll introduce myself — background, training, how I approach therapy — and invite you to share what you feel comfortable with about your life.

2. Approach & Process I’ll explain the therapeutic modalities I use (for example, CBT, mindfulness, trauma‐informed, etc.), how sessions tend to look, and what you can expect over time.

3. Confidentiality & Policies We’ll review confidentiality rules, limits of confidentiality (e.g. in cases of risk), session duration, scheduling, cancellation policies, fees, and professional boundaries.

4. Background & Context To understand your story, I’ll ask about relevant history: prior mental health treatment, relationships, family, life events, coping strategies, supports, and resources.

5. Initial Planning & Next Steps Toward the end, we’ll summarize what we’ve talked about, begin outlining goals and a plan, and decide what to focus on next. I may suggest reflections or small tasks for between sessions.

What you can do before we meet (optional):

  • Reflect on the concerns or feelings you most want to address.
  • Think about what you hope therapy might bring (even small changes).
  • Consider past experiences with therapy (what was helpful, what wasn’t).
  • Write down questions you’d like to ask in the session.
  • Gather anything you think is relevant (reports, assessments, journals, etc.).
