Great to meet you!

When I was an undergrad student at The University of North Carolina - Charlotte, I had my first counseling experience and it made me want to transform this profession. I wanted the place to feel more affirming, empowering, and welcoming for diverse people. Since then, I have spent 10+ years as a professional, researcher, and student working towards that goal. I take pride in being a counselor and, as a PhD student, I now take pride in supervising and teaching future counselors to do the same.

My approach to therapy

The foundation of my approach to therapy involves recognizing the strengths, values, & cultural backgrounds of my clients. Clients can expect that we will examine how their thoughts, feelings, & behaviors are connected. This approach, known as Cognitive-Behavioral therapy, is evidence-based & highly effective; I integrate it with strengths- & culture-based modalities (e.g., Relational Cultural & Person-Centered therapies). I have found this approach to be meaningful for my clients & their needs.

What you can expect from me

Clients can expect to leave sessions feeling equipped to explore (and disrupt if necessary) connections between their thoughts, feelings, & behaviors. This is particularly relevant for how they're thinking about theirselves and their ability to handle stressors. They can also expect to feel prepared to make meaningful progress towards becoming the version of themselves that they're hoping to see.
