Great to meet you!

I have been crossing lines of different cultures and expectations for my whole life, and helping others to do so too. My best work is with helping people manage borderline symptoms, depression/anxiety, "oppositional-defiant" behavior, and/or ADHD.

I care a lot about strong foundations in the original ideas of the different treatment modalities I use, like CBT, ACT, or DBT (the original "lore," if you will). At the same time, I'm always looking for connections to the various stories and narratives my clients find meaningful in your own everyday lives, whether it's from anime, the Bible, historical figures, or any mix.

If you are interested in more info: I have a Master's in Social Work from the University of Memphis. I trained as an LCSW with Nakicia Smith, LCSW, in Memphis and Ashley Curry, LCSW, of Knoxville. I have personal experience with ADHD. I grew up as a mixed white/Chinese kid in East Memphis and the suburbs, went to college in Chicago, and returned down South to be home.

My approach to therapy

As much as I love "spilling tea" sometimes in sessions, my focus in therapy is always whether clients are improving their lives outside of therapy. So I always try to help them clients learn as much as possible about their own symptoms, how Western therapy systems approaches these challenges, how other cultures approach these challenges, and so on. Therapy traditionally has "homework" for clients, but I've always found it's most constructive if we both do the "homework" of some short reading, a podcast, or a worksheet, and we talk about it together in session. My hope is that therapy is a safe space--and also a moderately challenging space of open curiosity about what is/isn't working in the world outside.

What you can expect from me

My main goal in the first session is to begin to understand what brought you to therapy, and what you've tried so far. From there, we build.
