Great to meet you!

Hello! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and relatively new to Counseling as it has to do with the individual therapeutic setting. I hold a Bachelors Degree in Education as well as a Masters Degree in Counseling. I have been a school counselor for over 20 years as well a counselor at the post secondary level for close to 10 years. I have recently completed training courses in both Yoga and Pilates and currently teach pilates at a local studio in Michigan. I have also been a competitive marathoner in recent years and maintain an active lifestyle.

My treatment focus in the therapeutic setting is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). However, I mention the fitness aspects of my background as I strongly believe that incorporating movement into our lives is one of the most powerful and effective tools to mitigating stress, anxiety and depression.

It is also imperative that I mention that social justice, diversity, equity and inclusion are values that are paramount to who I am as a person and therapist. The current vitriolic leadership in this country is something I inherently oppose. This is an essential part of my core and I do believe it is imperative to hold true to these values in the mental health setting. I look forward to working with you on your personal journey to a healthy and positive mindset and lifestyle.

My approach to therapy

As mentioned, my treatment focus in the therapeutic setting is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I believe that how we interpret and think and react to situations and events in our lives have a direct impact on our overall mental health. I will help you develop strategies to respond in ways that alleviate stress and anxiety in your life. I want you to be an active participant in discussing and learning about what works best for you.

In our therapy sessions I would also like to present and discuss mindfulness activities such as breathing techniques to help during times of elevated stress or anxiety. I would also hope that you would be open to considering where movement in some form can be incorporated into your day to day life.

Lastly, I want you to be an active participant as you are the person who will be incorporating what is discussed in therapy in your own life. As a therapist I will listen, discuss and provide feedback on strategies that you feel will work best for you. I look forward to working with you.

What you can expect from me

Our first session together will be an intake. I will gather information from you and your presenting issues and possible goals for therapy. You will have the opportunity to ask me questions as well about my approach and technique. The intake will serve as a gathering and sharing of information between client and therapist. The resulting determination will be if you feel that I am a good fit for you to continue with therapy whether it be weekly, biweekly, monthly or what works best for you. The therapeutic relationship between therapist and client is paramount to making and maintaining progress. Your input is essential and valued in this process.
