Great to meet you!

I'm DeAnna, a licensed counselor in North Carolina and South Carolina. My passion and training is working with children, families, and adults that experiences significant stress and sometimes trauma. I received extensive Trauma Focused CBT training at Medical University of South Carolina. Traumatic events make us feel like we are carrying around a lot weight ALL the time. In therapy we will work on unpacking these things and hopefully soon you start to feel better, lighter and brighter.

My approach to therapy

In therapy we start by exploring the stressors impacting your daily life. Often we find that we're not adjusting appropriately to all the demands. This can lead to fear, isolation, anxiety, depression, anger and poor decision making. Gradually, in therapy we create a plan and begin to see where we need some help. My clients often feel better within the first month and hopefully continue to improve over time. The therapy approach is most often Emotion and Trauma Focused, which can help you understand how a hard experience is still running in the background in your daily life, therapy can help you move through it instead of around it. Sessions with me feel more like a real conversation than a checklist: we name what's actually going on, figure out what's keeping you stuck, and build a plan you can use between sessions, not just during them. I'm also a trained forensic examiner, so hard stories don't rattle me. You can bring the whole story into therapy.

What you can expect from me

Your first session is mostly me listening. I'll ask about what brought you in, what you've already tried, and what you're hoping is different in six months. We'll leave with a plan for what we work on first. Most clients tell me the first session felt like exhaling for the first time in a while.
