Great to meet you!

I’m Demarra West, a licensed therapist, executive coach, and holistic wellness practitioner based in Detroit, providing therapy to clients across Michigan. With more than 16 years of experience, I work with teens, adults, and couples addressing trauma and PTSD, anxiety, depression, grief, stress, relationship and family concerns, self esteem, anger, identity, parenting, divorce, infidelity, domestic and sexual abuse, self harm, substance use, and major life transitions.

I’m trauma informed and draw from a range of clinical methods based on the needs and goals of each client. My work may include Trauma Focused CBT, Attachment Based approaches, Emotion Focused approaches, Mindfulness Based Cognitive approaches, Motivational Interviewing, Psychoeducation, Relational approaches, Solution Focused work, Somatic practices, Strength Based approaches, and Behavior Management.

I may also incorporate mindfulness, trauma sensitive yoga, meditation, somatic healing, and Reiki when these practices align with your needs, comfort, and preferences.

My approach to therapy

My approach is trauma responsive, affirming, holistic, empowering, and collaborative. I take time to understand the full picture of what may be affecting you, including your experiences, relationships, identity, stressors, emotions, strengths, and how your body responds to what you have been through.

Our work is centered on your needs and goals. I use assessments when appropriate to better understand symptoms, patterns, strengths, and areas that may need greater attention. From there, we can identify what is contributing to your concerns, process difficult experiences, strengthen emotional awareness, and work toward meaningful changes in your life and relationships.

What you can expect from me

Your first session is exploratory and gives us an opportunity to get to know each other. I’ll ask questions about what brings you in, what you are currently experiencing, what has been affecting your wellbeing, and what you hope to gain from our work together.

It is also an opportunity to determine if we are a good fit. You’ll have space to ask questions, learn more about working with me, and decide if you feel comfortable continuing. If we move forward, we’ll begin identifying your goals and establishing a direction for our work together.
