Great to meet you!

My name is Dennis Itoga and I am a licensed clinical psychologist specialized in helping adults to resolve deep-seated psychological pain, complex losses, and navigate difficult relationship dynamics. As a full-time assistant professor at the Hawaii School of Professional Psychology (HSPP) at Chaminade University of Honolulu, I am looking to serve a small number of individuals who experience trauma, depression, and/or anxiety. My professional background includes several years serving as a clinical supervisor in forensic psychology, veteran military intervention, and completing court-ordered comprehensive psychological evaluations.

My approach to therapy

By providing evidence-based, trauma-informed, and empathic approaches to diagnosis and treatment, I assess survival mechanisms and their influences on individual physical and emotional well-being. I work to determine how early life responses to crises have influenced the way a client perceives and interacts with the world. In this manner, individual motives and behaviors that were adaptive in childhood may now be partially or wholly maladaptive in adulthood.

What you can expect from me

Client privacy in treatment is essential given the need to discuss vulnerable and distressing personal experiences. Therefore, clients can expect me to review their rights and the limits of confidentiality. During the initial intake, clients will complete a risk assessment so that I may screen for psychiatric conditions. Typically by the end of the first session, I will review my clinical impressions and treatment direction. My goal is to provide accurate diagnoses and treatment plans through empirical, safe, and nonjudgmental methods.
