Counseling Background

I have Social Work and outpatient therapy experience with children and adolescents, as well as their families. My first Social Work job after I obtained my BSW was at Dobbs Youth Development Center, working as a Youth Counselor Technician. I worked with adjudicated youth. After I graduated with my MSW, I was employed by Beaufort County Department of Social Services, as a Social Worker I/A & T. I did CPS intake reports of abuse and neglect, on call assessments, as well as assisting with foster care cases. Next, I decided to pursue my clinical license and began working at Integrated Family Services as a School Based Therapist. I did outpatient therapy with school age children and adolescents. Upon completion of my provisional license, I began my current role as an MFLC (Military Family Life Counselor). In this role, I work with military children and their families.

My internships were with PORT Human Services, Duplin County Schools, and the Boys and Girls Club. I have volunteer and work experience with several community agencies such as: SAFE of Lenoir County, Special Olympics, Backpack Buddies, Christmas Cheer, Mary’s Kitchen, Kinston Gives Back Inc, Surfrider Foundation, and the No Kid Hungry Project.

My approach to therapy

My clinical approach is guided by strengths based beliefs and my evidence based therapy modalities lean towards CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), SFBT (Solution Focused Brief Therapy), MI (Motivational Interviewing), and Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian).
