Great to meet you!

Hey! My name is Dylan but most people call me DJ. I am the owner of Authentic Counseling & Care. I am a licensed Therapist in North Carolina and Virginia.

I was born and raised in a small town in North Carolina, and lived in Charlotte, NC, for five years, where I met my partner. We moved to Richmond, Virginia, in 2023, and I am an avid concertgoer, vinyl record collector, and all-around music lover.

As a millennial born in the early 90s, I understand the unique pressures and shifts that come with growing up in a rapidly changing world; trying to make sense of who you are while everything around you is evolving.

My approach to therapy

I know what it feels like to not fit perfectly into the boxes society creates. I’ve been there, feeling unsure and searching for a space where I could truly be myself. That’s why I became a counselor. I offer LGBTQ+ affirming, person-centered therapy that’s collaborative, supportive, and practical. My work focuses on helping clients manage anxiety, explore identity, and build resilience during life transitions and substance use recovery/aftercare. I blend evidence-based tools with a warm, relatable style so therapy feels less clinical and more like a real conversation that leads to real change.

What you can expect from me

I provide a safe, personable space where you can set aside expectations and just be you. As your counselor, I’m here to support your journey of self-exploration and help you navigate life’s transitions without judgment. Together, we’ll work to create a life that aligns with who you truly are and not who you feel you ‘should’ be.

I know how powerful therapy can be because I’ve experienced it myself. My own journey inspired me to become a therapist; to offer others the support that made a difference in my life. I understand that asking for help is hard, especially when you’re not even sure what kind of help you need. But if you haven’t been feeling like yourself, I encourage you to reach out. Let’s have a conversation, ask questions, and explore what support looks like for you. You don’t have to do this alone. Take a chance on yourself, you deserve it, and I’m here to help.
