Great to meet you!

Hi, I'm Dr. Ed Callahan, a Ph.D.-level Marriage & Family Therapist with over 33 years of experience working with individuals, couples, teens, young adults, and families.

Much of my work is with neurodivergent people and the families around them — autistic teens and adults, including Level 1 and late-identified presentations, along with ADHD, demand avoidance, and burnout. I also work closely with parents who feel exhausted, second-guessed, and worn down by advice that doesn't fit their kid. Alongside this, I see clients for anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, life transitions, and marital and relationship concerns.

Beyond the therapy room, I develop and teach parent-education programs for families navigating neurodivergence. My background includes family stabilization work, residential therapeutic program leadership, and school and clinical direction — which shapes how I practice: systems-first, practical, and focused on what actually holds up at home.

My approach is collaborative and compassionate. I help clients better understand themselves, and their partner or child, strengthen emotional regulation, and build healthier communication at home. If you're feeling overwhelmed or stuck, I offer a supportive space combined with clinical expertise to guide you toward real change.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is collaborative, relational, and practical. I work alongside my clients to better understand the patterns driving anxiety, conflict, or disconnection—and then we develop tools that create real change in everyday life. I integrate family systems thinking, emotional regulation strategies, and neurodiversity-affirming perspectives to ensure each client feels understood rather than judged.

Therapy should feel safe, focused, warm, and forward-moving. Together, we build insight, strengthen communication & understanding, and create sustainable strategies that support healthier relationships, greater confidence, and a happier, more fulfilled life.

What you can expect from me

In our first session, you can expect a calm, welcoming space where we begin by formulating a clear picture of what’s bringing you in. I’ll ask thoughtful and caring questions to understand your current challenges, your history, and what you hope will change. There’s no pressure to “have it all figured out”—this is simply a starting point to your journey.

By the end of our time together, we’ll identify initial goals and a clear direction for our work. My aim is for you to leave feeling heard, understood, and hopeful about the path forward.
