Great to meet you!

I am a licensed clinical professional counselor, MD Board Approved Supervisor, and Yoga Alliance Yoga Teacher with over 20 years of experience in the field. I weave yoga, mindfulness, poly-vagal nerve theory, nature, compassionate cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and parts work into my work with folks from diverse backgrounds who experience symptoms related to anxiety, trauma, and ADHD.

I specifically enjoy working with caregivers, such as teachers, healthcare professionals, and other therapists to help them find work/life balance.

I received my Masters of Science from Johns Hopkins University, and several post graduate certifications in DBT, Nature-Informed therapy, and trauma. For more information go to : https://www.thehealingself.com/people/elizabeth-mccarthy

My approach to therapy

After getting to know one another, it's Healing Self's philosophy and mission to empower each person to learn from their own teacher, healer, loved one, within to find their voice, their body, and soul to move forward and attain their goals.

I take a very active approach via movement, nature, CBT, and other modalities to heal. At healing self, we don't just talk, we do!

A typical session looks like a 15-20 minute update, following by an evidence-based practice which can be utilized outside of therapy.

What you can expect from me

You can expect to be welcomed with compassion, empathy, and care. I like to get to know what is happening within the last six months that has brought the client to services, and what psychosocial stressors are impacting your mental wellness in the present moment.

The second session will be a psychosocial history to include family of origin and intergenerational heritage; relationship with self and others throughout your life; what their academic life was like; what resources sustained you; and what stressors impacted how they see yourself and the world.

The third session involves creating goals together, and deciding what approaches may be used to best meet your needs.
