Great to meet you!

Hi, I'm Emily! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in North Carolina. I earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Psychology from UNC Chapel Hill in 2015 and a Master of Social Work degree (MSW) from Western Carolina University in 2019.

I enjoy working with clients with diverse backgrounds and challenges including life transitions, identity formation, relationship challenges, and self-image related concerns. I have worked with clients with a broad range of diagnoses including trauma diagnoses, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, substance use disorders, and psychosis related concerns.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is grounded in person-centered and relational principles, which means I deeply value authenticity, connection, and empathy. I believe you are the expert on your own life, so I’m here to listen, understand, and offer support as you work toward desired changes at the pace that is right for you. I believe that healing and growth occur through connection and that the therapeutic relationship itself can be a powerful tool for change. I aim to build a genuine, trusting partnership with you that may positively influence how you relate to yourself and others.

I use an integrative approach to my therapeutic work, often drawing on techniques from Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy in order to meet individual client needs.

What you can expect from me

I value authenticity, kindness, humor, and direct communication. I believe that the most meaningful growth happens when we feel safe to be ourselves, and I work hard to create an environment where you can feel seen, heard, and respected.

In our first session, my focus will be on building rapport and connection to ensure that you feel comfortable and understood. I believe that the foundation of a successful therapeutic relationship is trust, and it’s important that we both feel we’re a good fit for each other. During this initial session, we’ll take time to get to know each other and explore what brought you to therapy. I’ll ask questions to understand your background, history, and current challenges, which will help me learn more about your unique experiences and perspective. We’ll also discuss your goals for therapy and what you hope to achieve in our work together.
