Great to meet you!

Hi there! I'm Dr Esmie, I'm licensed in the State of VA & MD as a LCSW-C. I hold a PhD, in Research Psychology specializing in cognitive-neuropsychology, neuroplasticity/epigenetics. All of that! just to say, I help you to wire out the bad and the ugly and wire in, the good with courage, strength, mental health and healing. With more than five decades of rich life experiences and three decades of professional counseling/therapy, I bring to you a wealth of wisdom, understanding and direction to heal, re-build and restore.

I've traveled the globe and spent the majority of my life in England and California. Currently I reside in the DMV state of Virginia. I serve individuals, couples, and families from diverse cultural and spiritual backgrounds.

My clinical practice integrates evidence-based approaches, including trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and strengths-based interventions. I have worked extensively with clients navigating trauma, life transitions, relational conflict, stress, and emotional challenges, helping them move toward healing and personal growth.

I believe meaningful change occurs when people feel genuinely seen, heard, and respected for who they are.

I strive to create a safe, supportive therapeutic environment where clients can explore their experiences without judgment. Through collaboration, practical tools, and compassionate guidance, I help clients develop insight, strengthen resilience, and build healthier patterns of thinking, feeling, and behavior.

Above all, I value human dignity and authentic connection. I believe credentials may open doors, but character, empathy, and genuine care sustain lasting transformation.

My approach to therapy

My clinical work incorporates individuals , marriage, families, youth and adults. My skills are grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based interventions, DBT and trauma-informed care. I specialize in various diagnoses, the treatment of ADHD, various personality disorders, Depression & Anxiety, PTSD, Childhood trauma, substance use and addiction, co-occurring mental health disorders, anger & emotional regulation, Pre-marriage, Divorce, and recovery from various abuse, and environmental maltreatment. Perinatal, Postpartum depression. I also integrate principles of cognitive neuropsychology, Rewiring the brain through neuroplasticity, and enhance emotional intelligence. It is my therapeutic work to support meaningful and lasting change and restoration of mind, body, soul and spirit.

What you can expect from me

In your first session with me, you can expect a welcoming, supportive environment where you are invited to share your concerns, experiences, and goals at your own pace. I will conduct an initial assessment to better understand your history, current challenges, and the areas where you would like support. Together, we will begin identifying meaningful goals and discuss potential approaches to guide your therapeutic journey.

Beyond credentials, I absolutely value authenticity, integrity, and human connection. I view therapy as a partnership and strive to create a safe, supportive space where clients can explore their experiences, rediscover their strengths, and move toward personal growth and holistic well-being.
