Most people seek therapy when they are experiencing overwhelming distress. Reducing your pain will be our first goal. As you are feeling stronger, we will traverse the depths of your personality and your lived experiences. We'll explore your temperament, your self-concept, your relational style, your cognitive or problem-solving style and the ways in which you protect or defend yourself from pain. In truth, the ways in which we have learned to defend ourselves often become the greatest barrier to our happiness. For example, a person might learn to avoid vulnerability in relationships yet find themselves deeply lonely. As you begin to recognize your own defensive barriers, you can change them. I strive to provide a therapeutic experience that is nuanced just for you.
With every session, you will know yourself a little better. You will take away greater insight into your struggles, more coherent life story, compassion for self, and greater compassion for others.
