Great to meet you!

I go by "Eve", and I've completed my masters in social work and have my LCSW. I've spent the last few years working with the lgbtq+ community, family and youth (ranging from toddlers to 18 year olds), supporting adults in breaking the cycle of abuse, and helping people better understand and manage their mood disorders (anxiety, depression, bipolar, etc). I have worked in a very rural area where I was one of only a few therapists; which meant that I had to learn how to meet the needs of a diverse set of clients. As a result I'm a bit of a "generalist" and can be useful for a wide variety of mental health needs. I try to be adaptable and I'm not afraid to seek out trainings if I feel a client needs more from me. I also make a point to be transparent; so if you're wondering if I have the skillset to support you--please feel free to reach out and I'll let you know the specifics of what I have to offer.

My approach to therapy

The most common feedback I get from my clients is that I create a space which feels safe and peaceful. I have also been laughingly told that I'm not afraid to call a person out, as I'm willing to push and challenge when someone needs it. Honesty doesn't need to be a judgement, and being honest with oneself is necessary to grow and heal. I know I'm doing my job well when therapy truly feels like a collaboration. At the end of the day you're the only one who can live your life, so I'm here to be a guide and a support--while you're the leader.

What you can expect from me

Usually in a first session I try to give clients a sense of who I am as a therapist, as well as what my temperament and sense of humor can be like. A good counselor can still be a bad fit if our personalities clash, and I want to respect a client's right to get a good read on me and if I'm what they're needing right now. Additionally; I try to get a sense of what a client is looking for from therapy. I want to be useful and actually make a difference, so I try to sketch out a rough plan for treatment right at the beginning. Perhaps it's a few sessions of going easy and slow so trust can be built, or it might be a list of skills someone wants to tackle right away. Whatever it is someone is looking for from me, I want to know it so I can do all in my abilities to provide it.
