Great to meet you!

My name is Gene Groves, LCPC (MD), LPC, (DC), NCC, and I am a licensed clinical professional counselor with a background in helping individuals and couples navigate anxiety, trauma, life transitions, and relationship challenges. I bring over two decades of professional experience in federal service, combined with advanced clinical training, to support clients with both practical and emotionally grounded care. My approach integrates evidence-based practices such as CBT, ACT, and attachment-focused therapy with a deeper focus on self-awareness and personal growth. I specialize in working with men, couples, and individuals seeking clarity, emotional balance, and stronger relationships. My goal is to create a safe, supportive space where you feel understood while also helping you move forward with purpose, confidence, and meaningful change.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is empathetic, insight-oriented, and goal-directed. I create a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients can explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences with honesty and clarity. Together, we identify patterns, challenge unhelpful beliefs, and develop practical strategies that support meaningful and lasting change. I integrate evidence-based approaches such as CBT, ACT, and attachment-focused therapy to help clients build self-awareness, strengthen relationships, and move forward with confidence.

What you can expect from me

Clients can expect the first session to be a welcoming, nonjudgmental space focused on getting to know you and understanding what brings you to therapy. We will discuss your current concerns, background, and goals, while also exploring what you hope to gain from the process. I will ask thoughtful questions to better understand your experiences, and you’ll have the opportunity to ask any questions about how therapy works. Together, we will begin identifying initial areas of focus and outline a path forward
