My approach to mental health care is holistic, compassionate, trauma-informed, and individualized. As a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I draw on my nursing experience in medical settings, particularly psychiatric care and addiction medicine, to understand the many factors that influence emotional and mental well-being. I believe effective treatment starts with listening, building trust, and seeing the whole person, not just symptoms or diagnoses.
My approach incorporates evidence-based methods, including supportive therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)-informed strategies, psychoeducation, motivational interviewing, and strengths-based care, as appropriate to each patient's needs and treatment goals. During sessions, I explain relevant strategies in understandable, practical terms and work collaboratively with patients to identify patterns of thinking, develop coping skills, strengthen emotional regulation, and recognize personal strengths. I also consider the role of stress, sleep, lifestyle, physical health, trauma, and life circumstances in overall well-being.
I strive to integrate these approaches consistently into treatment while adapting care to each individual's circumstances, preferences, and progress. When medication management is appropriate, I work with patients to understand their options, discuss potential benefits and risks, and make informed decisions together. My goal is not simply to reduce symptoms, but to help patients build resilience, gain a deeper understanding of themselves, and work toward lasting healing and a more balanced, fulfilling life.
