Great to meet you!

Greta Carlson, Psy.D., ABPP, is a board-certified clinical psychologist licensed in Virginia, Maryland, Washington, D.C., Washington state, and Psypact participating states. She completed her APA-accredited psychology internship in crisis intervention, trauma, and severe mental illness at Friends Hospital, her postdoctoral fellowship in trauma, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and dissociative disorders at Sheppard Pratt Health System, and a residency in child and adolescent psychology at Expand Psychology, formerly the Center for Cognitive Therapy and Assessment.

Dr. Carlson has written and presented several clinical papers, including a paper on the treatment of sexual challenges in adults with Dissociative Identity Disorder, a paper on adapting psychodynamic psychotherapy for use within inpatient settings, and a case presentation on the treatment of trauma in children and adolescents through play therapy at Division 39 (Society of Psychoanalysis and Psychoanalytic Psychology) of the American Psychological Association.

My approach to therapy

Dr. Carlson is nationally certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and particularly enjoys working with individuals with dissociative disorders. She is interested in psychodynamic approaches to psychological assessment and can provide an initial screening assessment to tailor treatment to each individual. Dr. Carlson pays close attention to the quality of the therapeutic relationship and alliance and employs interventions from psychodynamic psychotherapy, TF-CBT, mindfulness, and metacognitive imagery to treat trauma and PTSD symptoms in people of all ages.

What you can expect from me

Dr. Carlson offers free initial consultation sessions as a first step! These are designed to answer questions and help determine goodness of fit before committing to individualized trauma focused therapy.
