Great to meet you!

Hi, I’m Holly Young (LCMHC), a licensed therapist in Asheville, NC. I create safe, affirming spaces for adults seeking support with stress, burnout, anxiety, depression, trauma, neurodivergence, and LGBTQ+ issues. My approach is authentic, adaptable, and compassionate—therapy with me is collaborative, down-to-earth, and tailored to what feels right for you.

I use a blend of humanistic, strength-based, culturally sensitive, and motivational interviewing modalities, along with psychoeducation. My practice draws from my BA in Sociology and Anthropology (UNCA), my MA in Counseling (Wake Forest), and my current studies in Human Rights and Social Justice (ASU). My background includes nearly a decade working with folks with disabilities, especially those on the autism spectrum, and experience in schools, community mental health, forensic evaluations, and private teletherapy.

My style is rooted in person-centered and existential approaches, with a strong focus on compassion, curiosity, and practical skill-building. I honor each client’s unique story and identity, using my sociological and human rights perspective to foster culturally sensitive care. I’ve personally navigated anxiety and neurodivergence, so I understand how challenging these experiences can be—and I bring lived experience, empathy, and a robust toolbox of coping strategies to my work.

Therapy with me is a sacred, judgment-free space for sharing, growth, and connection. I believe “shame dies when stories are told in safe spaces,” and I strive to be a steady presence for clients in their darkness. I value fairness, equality, independence, and kindness, and I show up authentically—whether you’re seeking healing, self-discovery, or simply a place to be seen and heard.

This is a SAFE space—for everyone.

My approach to therapy

My approach to therapy is person-centered, collaborative, and rooted in compassion. I view therapy as a sacred, judgment-free space where you can share your story, build skills, and find connection. I tailor each session to your needs and interests, drawing from humanistic, strength-based, culturally sensitive, and motivational interviewing techniques, as well as Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness, Psychoeducation, and Art Therapy. I believe in meeting you where you are—with honesty, empathy, and curiosity—so we can work together to foster growth, healing, and self-discovery in a way that feels authentic and safe for you.

What you can expect from me

Our first full session focuses on creating your Treatment Plan and completing an intake assessment. From there, if you feel we are a good fit, sessions offer practical tools, fresh perspectives, and a compassionate space to pause and reflect without judgment. We’ll check in, explore what’s on your mind—whether through talking, drawing, or other creative methods—and use tailored activities and psychoeducation to support your growth. Sessions are whatever you need them to be - I am very flexible.
