Howard Riesel

I am warm, engaging and view therapy as an educational and empowering process. I see my strengths as guiding the process, but not controlling. I emphasize how each client can take charge of their unique situation and provide the tools to do so as well as over 43 years of clinical practice experience. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in NY and Maryland, the latter is my current virtual practice. I earned my MSW in 1979. I was employed for 42 years at a hospital on Long Island.

I have extensive experience in adolescent substance abuse and family treatment. I spent 5 years managing psychiatric and substance abuse emergencies in the ER I am now in full-time private practice. I am an Instructor in Addiction Studies for 20 years. I treat individuals, couples and families in my practice and use (CBT). I help high-conflict couples utilizing a guided, approach; focused on improving communication processes and unhelpful patterns of thinking and behavior.

My goal is engage clients so they can feel understood, and have a clear idea as to how therapy can help. I see my role as providing education and insight and constructive, solution-focused alternatives to my clients.
