Great to meet you!

Hello, my name is Hugh and I've been a licensed talk therapist for 25 yrs now. Originally trained in Art Therapy Counseling; I emphasize my client's creative pursuits in the therapy process (e.g., career, hobbies, sports or arts) toward reducing emotional distress and/or addiction. I approach with openness: only you know what your concerns are and what's helped or not helped in the past. I value getting to know my clients and discovering unique ways to be useful to them.

My approach to therapy

I have sought training for a variety of therapies over the years and apply them to clients based on their needs, strengths and interests. While incorporating Evidenced Based interventions like Motivational Interviewing, Polyvagal Theory, Mindfulness or Seeking Safety, we discover ways you can make desired changes, moving toward your version of a good life. I also incorporate breathwork techniques (similar to the Wim Hoff method) when it fits.

What you can expect from me

Typically, my clients report gradual improvements and we observe concrete indicators of this such as lower stress levels, or less time spent down after a challenging event. If no progress is being made, I offer other strategies and approaches until we get traction.
