Great to meet you!

Janice Konno Scarbrough, LCSW, is a seasoned clinical social worker with nearly three decades of experience serving individuals and families in crisis. She began her career in 1995 after completing a certification program in Substance Abuse Counseling and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Social Work in 2001.

Throughout her career, Janice has worked extensively with individuals impacted by substance use disorders—particularly parents involved in the court system due to concerns around the safety and well-being of their children. She has facilitated recovery-focused groups in a women's prison and led both group and individual counseling for individuals convicted of driving under the influence (DUI), helping them work toward license reinstatement and long-term recovery.

In 2010, Janice earned her Master's in Social Work, with a minor in Women and Religion and Classical Music. She became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in 2024. Her clinical background spans emergency medicine, hospice, and end-of-life care, where she has guided families through intense grief, trauma, and life transitions with empathy and resilience.

Janice is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a therapeutic approach she uses to help clients process trauma in a safe and compassionate manner. Her work is grounded in a trauma-informed, strengths-based approach that honors the unique stories and healing journeys of each client.

Outside of her professional life, Janice is a proud mother of five and grandmother of six. She enjoys spending time outdoors and restoring old furniture-finding beauty and potential in things others

My approach to therapy

I bring a grounded, compassionate presence to therapy, shaped by both professional training and lived experience. As a therapist, I come from the perspective of a "wounded healer"—someone who has walked through life’s complexities and come out with a deeper understanding of pain, resilience, and transformation.

My work is rooted in mindfulness, presence, and deep listening. I believe healing begins when we create space to slow down, notice what’s happening within us, and approach ourselves with curiosity rather than judgment. I strive to offer that kind of space—calm, respectful, and non-clinical—where clients can safely explore grief, trauma, identity, and the many roles we hold across a lifetime.

Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all method, I meet people where they are, trusting their inner wisdom while offering tools and perspective from my training in trauma-informed care, EMDR, and over two decades of clinical social work.

Above all, I see therapy as a collaborative, human-to-human process—where real connection, honesty, and even humor can be part of the path to healing.

What you can expect from me

The first session is about beginning a relationship built on trust, safety, and mutual respect. My goal is to create a warm, nonjudgmental space where you feel seen and heard from the very start.

We'll take time to get to know each other—I'll ask questions to gather a full picture of your story, including your emotional, physical, and social experiences. This helps me understand not only what brings you to therapy, but also the strengths and values that have shaped you.

Together, we’ll begin to identify your goals and explore what healing and growth might look like for you. Whether you're navigating grief, trauma, life transitions, or seeking greater clarity in your relationships or roles, we’ll work collaboratively to create a care plan that aligns with your needs and intentions.

Above all, that first session is about making sure you feel supported and comfortable moving forward.
